Which Are The Seven Wonders Of Nature

seven nature wonders

There are some spectacular natural sites in the world that only a few people get to see in their lifetime. These are selected by a global poll every year. The seven best sights are chosen that outrank the other splendid sights. The current seven wonders of nature are the Northern Lights, The Grand Canyon, Paricutin, Mount Everest, Harbor of Rio de Janeiro, Victoria Falls and the Great Barrier Reef. Some of these sites require an aerial view as it is not possible to travel to those sites.

The Northern Lights: Aurora Borealis

These beautiful lights are a sensation for tourists traveling to the northern Hemisphere. They are called Norther lights or auroras that occur naturally. The lights have a mystifying display of light in the sky. They emanate a diffused glow all along the northern hemisphere. The intensity of these lights increases as you travel more towards the north. They appear the best around the magnetic pole in the Artic. But these lights appear randomly and a traveler might not get the chance to see them at all. They are mostly seen in Canada’s far north, Alaska, Iceland, Finland, Sweden or Norway. They are more visible during the winter months, as the darker skies in winter make it easier to notice them.

The Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon are massive and colorful landscapes that provide breathtaking views that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Some tourists travel to the Southern rim of the Grand Canyon to spend a full day admiring the rocky views. You can even head down into the canyon for a hiking trail. Some even take a helicopter ride of the Grand Canyon. It is located in Arizona, USA and the closest cities are Las Vegas and Phoenix.

This natural wonder is in Michoacan, Mexico. It is a cinder cone volcano, almost as famous as the Yellowstone. It last erupted in 1952. It is ranked as one of the natural wonders of the world because humans have witnessed its birth and rapid transformation within a quick span of time. One can take a twelve-mile round trip and reach to the peak of the volcano on a horseback or by hiking. It is accessible throughout the year.

Victoria Falls

These beautiful falls are located in Africa along the Zambia and Zimbabwe borders. It is a spectacular waterfall that runs off from the Zambezi river. Visitors can see the Victoria Falls from Zimbabwe or Livingston in Zambia. You can even avail helicopter rides or microlight tours. It is best visited after the rainy season as the water coming over the falls is immense and the weather is also pleasant.

Mount Everest

At an elevation of 29,029 feet, this mountain is the highest spot on the earth. The tallest mountain in the world is Mauna Kea in Hawaii, but this one is at the highest elevation. Mount Everest lies on the border of Nepal and Tibet, China. Visitors can schedule a flight to get an up close and personal view of the mountain or can also capture a distant view of the peak from the comfort of a hotel in Nepal.

Great Barrier Reef

This is the largest coral reef in the world including hundreds of islands. There is a diverse ecosystem here and some three thousand separate reefs as well. Visitors can take a boat trip to see the reefs closely. You can also enjoy snorkelling or diving here to see the marine life.

Harbor of Rio de Janeiro

This site is surrounded by granite mountains and pinnacles such as Sugar Loaf Mountain, Tijuca hills and the Corcovada Peal. These were caused due to the erosion caused by the Atlantic Ocean.

These are seven of the magnificent wonders of nature in the world.
