The early medieval ages witnessed major changes in ancient Roman civilizations like those in ancient Rome. Under the later Western Roman Empire, most of Italy was under the control of Carolingian kings while the last Roman frontier was that of Thrace. Under the Later Roman Empire, most of Western Europe was under the control of Latin Kings and there were Latin speaking peoples living in areas such as Spain and Portugal.

With the end of the Roman Empire, there was a reunification of all the parts of Italy including the Peninsula (the western part of today’s Italy). The Fall Of The Roman Empire
The fall of the Roman Empire marked the end of an ancient culture and resulted in political turmoil in Europe. For several years, the Western Europeans did not fully develop because they were absorbed into the Roman political system. It was not until the 11th century that the remnants of this ancient Roman civilization began to regain its independence. These days, the Italian people are known to be one of most educated and cultured people in the whole world. In fact, there were some libraries which were founded during this time period solely in order to preserve and protect these ancient roman civilizations.
Interestingly enough, one of the most important features of this ancient Roman civilization was religion. There is not one single statue of Jesus in all of Rome. Instead, you will find statues of several religious figures throughout the city. Rome was primarily a Roman citizen and they had full access to the religious practices and beliefs of the city. These beliefs included such practices as easement of conscience and free-will, which are the core ideals of Christianity.
