With lens calibration, it is really easy. It is not a risky adjustment that tames the inner workings of your digital camera. That is reserved only for calibrating manual lens use. Calibrating your automatic lens system is much easier and safer for your gear.
With proper calibration, you can get a better shot, regardless of where the camera lens came from or what brand it is. You are sure to make better pictures with a sharper image, no matter what the conditions. Here is how to do it.
Read The Manual Of Camera Lens Calibration
First, read your camera lens manual and see what adjustments the manufacturer recommends. Your camera manual may even have a lens calibration chart that you can follow. You will need a paper or computer, a magnifying glass, and a measuring tape.
Now it is time to measure the distance between your eye and your camera lens. You will be using this distance measurement to make sure that your lens is calibrated properly.
With the small piece of paper, place the front and back of the lens on the paper. Draw a line down the center of the lens and cross it over the distance from your eye. Draw another line down the middle of the lens. Cross this line on the lens and repeat until the distance measurement is accurate.
Now take the other side of the camera lens and hold it against the paper on the opposite side of the lens. Draw a line from the center of the lens on the paper and cross it over the distance. Draw another line down the center of the lens. Repeat until you have the right measurement.
Once you have the distance measurement, mark it on the lens with the measuring tape. This mark is your distance between your eye and the center of the lens. You can do this with your finger, pencil, chalk, or an eraser. After you have marked the distance, you will need to put the camera lens on the tripod and then set it for the necessary time.
You should be able to get a steady shot of your image after approximately two minutes of exposure to your digital camera. If you are having trouble with a photo, you may want to try a few different settings. Until you get the proper exposure. And aperture setting.
Now you can put your camera lens on your monitor and turn it on. Use the aperture and shutter speed dials on your camera to determine which setting is correct. If you can find a good light source with the same exposure setting as your photo, that’s fine. If not, then you need to turn your camera on its lowest power setting and wait for the light to be as close to your camera lens.
You can make adjustments to your exposure settings to improve your image quality until you have gotten the most out of the photo. If you find that the exposure settings are too dark, you can adjust the white balance settings until the image is balanced.
If the light is not so perfect, you can adjust the color settings to add more light until the image looks nice and natural. You may even want to increase the contrast by increasing the contrast setting on your digital camera.
